House Concert – Apr 28 – Ordinary Elephant

April 28, 2024 @ 5:00 pm 8:00 pm

https://www.ordinaryelephant.net/

April 1st update from Bruce: “First let me say that I’ve been trying to book Ordinary Elephant for several years. This duo are BIG STARS in the acoustic music world. They were named Artists of the Year a couple of years ago and have been on a roll ever since. Their music is just great. You can check them out on your favorite streaming service like Spotify or Apple Music or follow this link https://www.ordinaryelephant.net/videos. They will be here on a late Sunday afternoon four weeks from today. I have a new batch of beer fermenting and with any luck, we can be outside on the lawn of The Cane Creek Community Center. Those of you who came for Heather Pierson can expect the same top quality level of performance!

All the shows will start with a Pot Luck at 5:00PM and the music will begin around 6:00PM. We prefer to be outdoors if the weather is nice, and we will always let you know a day or two before the show.

I will send out more information about Heather in a few days, but many of you think that she is the very best musician we have ever featured! She has been with us twice before. You can let me know if you want to reserve a spot for the show.

Finally, let me say unequivocally that all the artists I have scheduled this year are truly world class musicians. I am particularly pleased to have finally booked OrdinaryElephant. (I’ve wanted them for years.) To quote the legendary singer/songwriter TomPaxton: “There is nothing at all ordinary with this elephant. They are smack dab in the tradition that I have always loved but have both (all four?) feet in the 21st Century. This is rich ground. Listen!”

So please mark your calendar for these dates and you can let me know if you want to reserve a spot for Heather or the other shows.

SUGGESTED DONATION: $20 per person. As usual, I ask that couples donate an extra $5 to the Cane Creek Community Center, since we will be using their facilities. This is strictly optional.

BRING: Food for the pot luck and beverage of choice. I just started a new batch of beer and it will be ready in time for the show. It will be free for all of you who are drinking age. I’ll also contribute something large, maybe roast beef. Also, we will be outside if it’s warm and dry, so bring lawn chairs.

WEATHER ISSUES: The show will be outdoors, but will be inside if it looks like rain or too chilly. So bring lawn chairs unless you hear otherwise. I’ll give you a heads up a couple days before the show as to our plans. As most of you know, there is plenty of good parking available.

CONTACT INFORMATION: You can email me at the below address or call if you have questions.”

About Ordinary Elephant:

Mesmerizing folk duo Ordinary Elephant has spent the better part of the last decade on a never-ending tour that’s earned married couple Crystal and Pete Damore widespread critical acclaim and made fans of luminaries like Tom Paxton and Mary Gauthier. In 2017, the pair took home the International Folk Music Award for Artist of the Year on the strength of their breakout album, Before I Go, and two years later, they returned with the similarly lauded Honest, which the Associated Press hailed as “one of the best Americana albums of the year.”

The band’s new stripped-down, self-titled collection is the purest distillation of their sound yet, showcasing the arresting power of the couple’s gorgeous harmonies and intricate fretwork. The songs are timeless, rooted in rich, character-driven storytelling, and the performances are similarly transportive, fueled by delicately intertwined banjo, guitar, and octave mandolin. Though the songs were born out of a period of deep uncertainty, the record itself is a work of profound self-assurance, one delivered by a duo whose personal and professional lives embody the limitless possibility of honest, organic collaboration. Press play on Ordinary Elephant and you’ll hear more than just a husband and wife; you’ll hear the sound of sincerity and commitment, of patience and gratitude, of learning to let go of expectation and revel in the simple beauty of the moment. (Please note there is a much longer biography/interview on their web site, along with a very long list of their musical accomplishments one the last 10 years.

Once again here is the link to their web site where you can view lots of videos and preview their new album (which really sounds great) https://www.ordinaryelephant.net/.

These folks really are great and Sunday should be a good day for many of you without conflicts. Ron Greene and I started this series in 2011, please help us keep it going strong!
